Even Animals Need Blood Sometimes

Animals need blood sometimes too!

The Emergency Animal Response Team (EART), based here in PEI, is proud to support the province’s first Animal Canine Blood Donor Clinic on January 6th at the New Perth Animal Hospital, 3188 Georgetown Road. The clinic will run from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Hosted by the Canadian Animal Blood Bank, the clinic will help replenish the supply of blood products made available to veterinarians across the Maritimes and beyond. All donors receive information on the Atlantic Veterinary College’s donor program if they would like to be part of a wonderful way to possibly save a dog’s life. Established in 1996 in Winnipeg, the Canadian Animal Blood Bank is a registered charitable organization. CABB relies exclusively on pet owners who volunteer their animals for the clinics. Donated blood is processed into its components, similar to human blood and is made available to veterinarians across Canada. The donation process only takes a few minutes, with the owner present. As with human blood, the donated product has a shelf life and the inventory must be constantly replenished. This clinic has been organized by one of our EART volunteers, Mary Ritchie.

The Canadian Animal Blood Bank Day was a resounding success.  We look forward to partnering with them again.  emergencyanimalresponseteam.com
